It is no secret that people from the Netherlands are passionate bikers, and for 4 days one of them the famous journalist and cycling enthusiast Mr. Bert Sitters visited the most beautiful places in Latvia along the seashore, where the Euro Velo 10 and Euro Velo 13 Iron Curtain Trails are planned
Mr. Sitters arrived in Salacgrīva, a small and beautiful city in the Vidzeme (North Latvia), where he visited the local Tourist information centre and afterwards cycled the Vidzeme Stony beach, which, without doubt, is one of the most picturesque places in Vidzeme. As a nice surprise was lunch, where 5 kinds of smoked local fish were offered in the nearby guesthouse a very common dish for the locals in the seaside and also tourists.
Later on Mr. Sitters visited the Munchausen Museum, a famous place where the real Baron Von Munchausen lived almost 300 years ago. At the end of the day a short excursion to Saulkrasti Cycling Museum, Bīriņi Castle and Turaida Museum Reserve in Turaida showed the guest Latvian historical traditions and architecture.
On June 11th, Mr. Sitters visited Sigulda city and afterwards the Museum of Occupation in Riga, which shows the history of Latvia, and especially the time period between the Second World War and the fall of the Iron Curtain. This place, undoubtedly, is one of the main points of interest for ICT 13. Afterwards the bikes were put in the train to Jūrmala, where Mr. Sitters cycled along the very Baltic Sea in the dunes.
