[30.01.2008] Vidzeme Tourism Association participates in the biggest Finnish tourism exhibition MATKA 2008 (with photos)
On 17th january 2008 in Helsinki the annual tourism exhibition MATKA 2008 was opened. This exhibition is the biggest tourism exhibition in the Nordic Countries.
The exhibition was visited by 84812 guests (from 17th-20th of January). Latvia was represented by 22 participants - also Vidzeme Tourism Association, which was represented by the head of VTA - Raitis Sijāts, Head of Ogre TIC - Aivita Heniņa, VTA board members as well as tourism specialists from Valmiera and Sigulda.
This exhibition has been very valuable, as it gave the possibility for the tourism professionals to establish new international contacts. This year to popularize Latvia as a "land that sings" the famous saxophone quartet NEXT, which also represents Latvia in other exhibitions, was giving a concert in MATKA.
On 17th january the Latvian stand in Helsinki also organized a reception, where the officials from the Finnish government, entrepreneurs, tourism specialists and mass media participated.
This year in "Matka 2008" tourism professionals from 76 countries participated, which is 10% more thanthe last year. More than 1400 mass media representatives visited the exhibition, also from exotic countries.
