[15.06.2008] Sloka lake nature trail opened in Jūrmala
On 4th of June, nearby lake Sloka, the new nature trail was opened. The nature trail has been created by Jūrmala City Council in cooperation with Ķemeri National Park

"Sloka nature trail offers its visitors to see virgin land, enjoy the lake and observe many species of birds who live here" says Raimonds Munkevics, head of Jūrmala City Council. "This nature object, undoubtedly, will attract many visitors and tourists and will offer excellent recreation possibilities. Thats why the City Council has been very generous by allocating large amount of money to establish the nature trail and bird observation tower. I think that we must continue the cooperation with Ķemeri national park".

To set up the nature trail as well as to build the observation tower, Jūrmala City Council in two years time has allocated 72 000 LVL (about 100 000 Euro). This money has also been used to improve the work of Ķemeri National Park Information centre. The "Nature school" has been created and about 1500 people participated in its events in year 2007, and about 600 people in year 2008.

The biggest reconstruction works took place by setting up a plank-way, that is about 1 kilometre long as well as building the bird observation tower. New bridge has been built over Vēršupīte.

A parking lot has been built, and places for campfire and benches have been set up together with information stands.
