[01.04.2008] A new interactive map in Turaida museum-reserve
The map shows the populated areas in Turaida and Krimulda during the the 16th and 17th century
Nowadays, when the process of area reform in Latvia is changing the map, it is also important to remember how these areas looked like in the hisotry. The names of the houses, willages and parishes are coming from the previous centuries and the names sometimes come not only from the 16th century, but even before. Therefore, it is important to preserve the collective memory and save the borders of the historical regions.
Turaida museum reserve, together with ''Latvijas Intelektuālās Sistēmas'' and government support has created a new interactive map "The parishes of Turaida and Krimulda in the middle of the 16th century". The historical places along with the current ones are showed in the map, together with the changes that took place. In the map there are 6 historical parishes of Turaida, 12 parishes of Krimulda, 52 willages, 28 manors, 8 churches, 33 pubs and about 500 farm-houses.
